Huawei Hungary was established in September 2005, mainly engaged in the production and sales of communication equipment. After years of development, Huawei has gradually established a brand in the Hungarian market. It has established partnerships with Hungarian and European telecom operators and distributors such as Hungarian Telecom, Vodafone, Telenor, GTS, Pantel, Invitel, and established European Supply Center and European Logistics Center in Hungary in 2009 and 2013, respectively.
As one of the world's giants in the field of telecommunications, Huawei's investment in Budapest has ranked third in Hungary. The establishment of a new R&D center by Huawei in Budapest this time is an important milestone in Hungary's "Opening to the East" strategy and the transformation and upgrading of Hungary's economy.
The strategy of "Opening to the East" increased Hungary's exports to the East by 22% and trade by 25% in ten years. Last year, in terms of value, 60% of Hungary's investment came from Eastern countries. One of the main goals of this strategy is to develop close and pragmatic cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit with China. Over the past ten years, China’s investment in Hungary has reached US$5 billion. Last year, China was Hungary’s tenth most important trading partner. In this way, we can understand why Hungary is the first EU country to join the “Belt and Road” initiative.
